An intimate Lake District Elopement at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House.

What a beautiful day this was! It’s a pretty daunting thing to have two strangers with you on your big day and for those two to be the only two you spend most of your day with. Those two were us, we were booked by the lovely Sophie and James to capture their elopement and be their witnesses.

We met them on the day itself for the first time but from the morning prep we knew it’d be an awesome day. The most beautiful, chilled out day complete with lots of laughs. I don’t think we’ve ever laughed as much as we did with these two, and you know you’re a good match with a couple when all of you have the worst potty mouths ever (no other family members were around so it’s all good!). There was all kinds of obscenities thrown across the lake whilst we were in the boats. Both boats nearly capsized at two different points, all of us equally useless at adventuring on water.

The Gilpin, what a venue! Sophie and James stayed in one of the Spa lodges which makes for a perfect intimate retreat with the Lake House being a 10 minute drive away. This is where the ceremony was held and it was just perfect. On the lake with a full beautiful view, it was truly stunning. After the ceremony and trying not to capsize boats we went for a stroll through the woods before going to feed alpacas and llamas – a must for any wedding day. We said our goodbyes and left Sophie and James with bubbles to celebrate in the steamy hot tub. They finished their day by having a meal in the Michelin star restaurant ‘Spice’ at The Gilpin.

Hats off to these two for eloping, for doing it their way with no traditions. It was a real pleasure for us to capture and we cant thank you enough for having us along. You two are awesome, thanks again. Lots of love.
